november 13-16, 2008 sitka Art Invitational
Sitka holds its 15th annual Sitka Art Invitational at the World Forestry Center on November 13-16. With over 100 Northwest Artists participating, including some of Sitka's past residents, this is expected to be a tremendous event. Our theme, "Conversations with Nature," asks the questions: Why does the intersection of art and ecology generate such transformative experiences? How does the study of relationships in nature translate to the appreciation of art? In what context can we experience a piece of music or poetry and have it generate an emotional response that lingers beyond the experience itself?
Please mark your calendar and save the dates for this chance to join the conversation while engaging with a wonderful collection of art by celebrated Northwest Artists.
We hope you can join us. More

About the Cover of Sitka's 2008 Workshop Catalog
Sitka instructor Peter Shütte made this photograph in his native Holland, while lying on the ground and looking at storm clouds coming and going. Peter describes that "the small forest harbors a large colony of blue herons, living in the tops of these old beech trees. Like a star, ten of my photography students were lying around me, thinking about how to make an image about 'Light emerging in our lives during times of change'.... A lofty subject to think about! Anyway, I would like the viewer of this strong image to think about this theme and... to join the workshop I give this August at Sitka where we will engage into the miracle of life and seeing, and how to express our feelings in our images." Call for invitational Sponsors & Patrons
The Sitka Center relies on individuals and orgnizations to help us provide the programs and services that deeply impact artists, writers, musicians and naturalists. The Sitka Art Invitational, while serving as our biggest fundraiser, also serves our mission by promoting artists, connecting collectors, encouraging public interaction with art, introducing the core notion that art and ecological principals reinforce each other, and raising awareness of the role art plays in education. We are looking for organizations and individuals who would like to help us make this event a success. Please contact us at 541-994-5485 and find out how you can be involved.
