2025 Sitka writer and artist-in-residence Lucy Cotter/ Laoiseach Ní Choitir will read from her book in progress, Between Language – A Love Song. Drawing on her childhood in postcolonial Ireland and her everyday reality as a US immigrant, this memoir/essay reflects on the legacy of silenced languages and the stakes of endangered languages today. It is a love song to the in-between states of language in a diasporic and decolonizing world.
Lucy Cotter/ Laoiseach Ní Choitir is an Irish writer, curator, and artist. The author of over 100 texts, her arts writing and creative nonfiction foreground culture’s entanglement in social, and political questions. Her book Reclaiming Artistic Research embraces the agency of art as knowledge. She holds a PhD on decolonizing curating, and her accolades include being curator of the Dutch Pavilion, 57th Venice Biennale. Her current projects focus on (minor, immigrant, disappearing) languages in a decolonizing world.
