Grant Cutler
- Interdisciplinary 2026
Grant Cutler is an audio field-recordist who works primarily in capturing the acoustic phenomenon of highly isolated natural environments as a way to explore the aesthetic & spiritual effects of organically quiet places.
He considers his work to be a type of meditative practice as well as a form of environmental activism, emphasizing the power of listening to reveal how deeply and necessarily we are connected to our ecosystems and each other.
Cutler’s work has been featured by the Guggenheim’s CPA commission series, Baryshnikov Art Center, Wave Farm, Walker Art Center, Pioneer Works, HoloCenter, NPR, Pitchfork, BBC, WNYC, and many others. Over a dozen artist residency programs have supported Cutler’s work including UCross, PLAYA, Montello Foundation, National Parks AIR, and the School of Making Thinking.
