Description

Abstract Impressionism describes a way of painting that combines Impressionism’s concerns for light and atmosphere with Abstract Expressionism’s reliance on feeling and gesture. In this four-day, multi-media workshop, we will make direct studies from the stunning Sitka Center landscape and then reflect upon these studies to draw out the “idea of landscape” that they represent. Based on this idea, we will then create larger, Abstract Impressionist works in the studio. Complementing our personal research in the landscape, we will examine a variety of artists who exemplify this approach to painting.
