Description

Mixed media, cold wax and oil, combine to make layers of texture and depth in unique abstract and expressionist landscape paintings. Up to 10 paintings will be produced in this 4 day workshop open to all skill levels. Morning study of the Elements and Principals of Art and Composition will be followed by mentored painting each day. Very process driven, Lynne wants you to learn a great deal while having a fun and rewarding experience at Sitka, learn from each other in a collaborative atmosphere and enjoy the beauty of the Oregon coast.

Oil and cold wax mixed media artist and educator Lynne Wintermute is a native Oregonian, inspired by the beautiful landscapes that surround her. She comes from a long line of visual artists and architects who have influenced her love of the arts.

Lynne received her BFA at Linfield University and pursued graduate studies at the Museum Art School at the Portland Art Museum (now Pacific Northwest College of Art). She has been a lifelong learner, studying with many artists over the years. Originally working in pen and ink, followed by years of working in pastel, acrylic, and oil, she searched for her abstract landscape voice. She still uses all those mediums in her work, but with the addition of cold wax medium and texture from marble dust, sand, or even dirt, she has perfected her unique form of abstract expression. Most paintings employ up to 60 layers of paint and texture to create a unique topography. She works with a palette knife, squeegee, soft brayer, and many mark-making tools. Her paintings take an average of two months to complete and six months to cure.
