Andy Guthrie

Andy Guthrie is an acoustician, composer, and French horn player living in San Francisco, CA.
Their music combines field recordings with their knowledge of acoustics and contemporary composition/improvisation, with the goal of drawing attention to sonic minutiae (both natural and manufactured) and abstracting them through slight distortions, in a way that is not a simulacrum replacing the real thing, but as an accompaniment or shadow. They have released albums as a soloist on Students of Decay, and as part of Fraufraulein on Mappa and Notice Recordings, among others.
Performances/Installations have included the GRM Acousmonium, ESS Florasonic, Asso Cable Festival, and ERSTeau Festival. They were a sound artist-in-residence at the Headlands Center for the Arts in 2024.
