Byron Westbrook

First emerging from New York’s experimental music community nearly two decades ago and now based in Los Angeles, Byron Westbrook is an artist and composer focusing on architectural qualities of sound in conversation with environments.

His practice explores sound’s ability to occupy space in a structural way, along with its potential to influence the listener’s perception of presence, place and time. Westbrook’s work has been presented internationally at institutions and festivals such as the Biennale Son, Walker Art Center, ICA London, MOCA Los Angeles, MoMA PS1, MaerzMusik, Long Play and Rewire Festivals among others, with residencies at Headlands Center, Civitella Ranieri Foundation, BANFF, ISSUE Project Room, EMS Stockholm as well as highly acclaimed releases on imprints like Shelter Press, Important Records, Hands In The Dark, Root Strata, Umor Rex, and Ash International. He currently hosts Chromatic Fields on dublab radio, a monthly program exploring overlap in ideas between music making and visual arts practice.
