Daisy Braun
- Interdisciplinary 2023
Daisy Braun is an interdisciplinary artist from Peaks Island, Maine.
Her work explores biological interconnectivity through a mix of drawing, sculpture, performance, and community collaboration. She draws special inspiration from marine plankton, and their relationship with humans and the climate crisis.
In 2019, Braun staged a week-long series of performances for Art Market Budapest, Eastern Europe’s international art fair. She enveloped a dozen local Hungarians in translucent, plankton-inspired, wearable sculpture. In 2022, Braun displayed two solo exhibitions in Maine – at the Maine Maritime Museum, and the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve’s Coastal Ecology Center. There, her sculptures hung in a gallery that looked in on the Reserve’s marine science lab. Braun initially formed a relationship with scientists in that lab through volunteering with their marine invader collaborative. In between stints in her studio, Braun oversaw her town’s blue crab monitoring project.
Braun earned a BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art, dual majoring in Interdisciplinary Sculpture and Humanistic Studies.
