Rebecca Welti recently moved to Port Townsend, Washington to be near the sea and tides that deeply influence her woodwork. Marine science - especially the wild world of plankton - has provided subjects for her current wood sculpture. She has carved most of her life, alongside commercial fishing, house painting and several years living and working at the Sitka Center. Artist residencies at Playa and Surel’s Place have provided Rebecca with wonderful opportunities to build upon. At Sitka, Rebecca plans to continue her focus on marine science with the help of the Hatfield Marine Science Center in Newport - creating and testing prototypes of her plankton board game and other fun educational materials.
