About the Instructor

Susan Schenk has been teaching a new form of collage for 10 years, helping students who want to paint with paper to create frame ready works without extensive drawing skills or expensive supplies.

Focusing on shapes, she guides students to create representational works using paper as a form of mosaic.

Materials List

You will need to bring:

Papers that are interesting to you—maps, music, scrapbook sheets, magazines.
Bits of string, raffia, and feathers to weave into your nest
Cutting mat (extras in class)
Exacto knife and extra blades (extras in class)
Scissors
Matte medium, small paper cup and brush for spreading medium
Optional:
Color photo or photocopy of a bird nest. 8×10. Many reference photos available in class.
Metallic pens and paints with brushes
An apron is always a good idea

All other materials will be provided including reference photos of nests and cradle board. Additional glues, papers, scissors, cutting mats, finger knife (Exacto), ephemera, hanging hardware, scissors, samples.
