Description

Create realistic or fanciful flower portraits using the techniques of stencils and templates, without any drawing skills. Use recycled paper as “paint” to create unique works of art. You will make two or more attractive, frame-ready pieces featuring your favorite blooms. You can use these secret techniques to create an infinite number of other works at home and surprise yourself with how sophisticated your results can be.

Susan Schenk has been teaching her unique form of collage for 10 years, helping students who want to paint with paper to create frame ready works without extensive drawing skills or expensive supplies. Focusing on shapes, she guides students to create representational works using paper as a form of mosaic.

Materials List

You will need to bring:

8 x 10 or larger color photo or photocopy of some favorite flowers. Calendar images are great, and there will be plenty of images in class. Close-ups are best. Your image will not be damaged.

Papers that are interesting to you and old magazines to cut up

Your favorite scissors

A cutting mat and Exacto knife if you have one. Extras available in class.

Deli paper and a brayer to smooth out bubbles

Tissue paper like gift wrap

Stabilo water soluble pencil, black

Uniball Signo gel pen, white (Write on anything. Gold and silver are fun as well.)
