Description

This workshop will explore how sensory experience can be used to create artwork that reflects one’s internal abstract reality. We will begin with exercises of varying lengths designed to help students explore how sensory experience translates to abstract marks on a surface. A few examples: how does a specific texture suggest a line, and how does color support the feeling associated with that texture?. What colors and marks are suggested when listening to Coltrane? To Bach? To Dua Lupa? How would you paint a flavor memory?. After we have completed the exercises, we will work on one piece which is a deeper exploration of the embodiment example of the artist’s choice. Who it’s for: Beginners to experienced painters interested in abstraction, Anyone curious about linking body, perception, and studio practice.
