Description

Learn to be inspired by the nature around you! During this 2-day felting workshop, you will learn how to make a cozy pair of studio shoes that will last for many years. Worldwide, communities have been crafting and felting animal fibers since the beginning of human existence. Shoes crafted from wool have never gone out of style and remain a cherished item in many households. Wool is renowned as a superior textile for many benefits, including its warmth. During this class, we will be creating with fibers sourced from local farms in the Pacific Northwest.

We will begin our time together by going into the woods to explore, forage, and create designs that can be used in our final bodies of work. We will then spend time at the studio creating wet/needle felt design techniques and patterns that can be transferred to future projects such as hats, totes, and clothes. Playing with colors and wool to sculpt and paint with is where our style begins to shine. In addition to your shoes, you will leave with a journal of your felts that can be kept in a book or hung as individual works of art.

The art of wet felting is a physical activity that requires participants to continuously use their arms and be on their feet for extended periods. This class is all-inclusive, and we will accommodate your physical needs if needed. If slippers are not the desired project, a foraging basket can be created instead.
