Description
Discover the art of natural dyeing, where plants, kitchen scraps, garden materials, and foraged items like nuts are transformed into vibrant colors for cloth and fiber. In this class we will focus on dyeing wool yarn. Learn to prepare wool for dyeing, create natural dye baths, and process fibers to achieve stunning, organic hues. Perfect for anyone interested in sustainable and creative practices, this class will inspire you to explore the beauty of nature’s palette.
You will leave class with a collection of yarn samples demonstrating the beautiful colors nature can transfer to textiles, a set of naturally dyed mini skeins, and a resource booklet to support you in your natural dyeing endeavors.
About the Instructor
Brittany is on a mission to make basket weaving and fiber arts accessible and easy to dive into. From weaving baskets in the bathroom next to the bathtub as a teenager, hand cleaning pounds of wool in the backyard, spinning thousands of yards of yarn just to move on to a new project, and traveling around with an ever-growing assortment of tools and materials in tow, living as a fiber fanatic is her way of life.
She strives to teach in a way that empowers each student to feel confident and enthusiastic about the object they are creating.
She runs a textile arts website called Textile Indie and a YouTube channel called Basket Weaving with Textile Indie, where she encourages others to explore basket weaving and other fiber arts. See more of her work at textileindie.com.
