Description

Writer Lyanda Lynn Haupt defines the word enchantment as “to be changed by the song we have heard” in her book Rooted: Life at the Crossroads of Science, Nature, and Spirit. Allow yourself to be changed by the song of the natural world in this unique songwriting workshop, led by singer-songwriter and former environmental educator Avery Hill. We will begin with an immersive experience on the Sitka grounds, learning about selected species and ecological concepts, demystifying a bit of all that “green stuff” we walk by every day. Then, using that immersive experience, we will put our pens to paper and tap into our instruments in order to capture our observations, reflections, feelings, questions, and more. We will work with various writing prompts and musical exercises, with options for individual and/or small group collaboration. This workshop is open to songwriters with any instrument (including voice), and any level of songwriting experience, including absolute beginners. Those curious to engage their creative process more with the natural world in any genre of writing are welcome, as well.
