Description

Moving beyond the constraints of the rectangle, shaped plate intaglio has endless possibilities and potential applications that can push printmakers into new directions.

In this workshop, students start with drypoints, introducting them to shaped plate and printing intaglio in a low effort and easy method. They then progress to working with copper, learning to prepare the metal, draw, and etch a line etching, and then to finally cut out the copper using a jeweler’s saw. As the students work on their etchings, spraypaint aquatint will be covered as an additional option, and the printing techniques of papier colle and top roll.

Each participant will come away with multiple finished prints, as well as their own shaped copper plate(s).
