Description
This workshop covers the cultural context of Tatreez, including history, contemporary significance, and respectful cultural practices around stitching. On the first day we will learn about this context, as well as learn the basics of Palestinian Fellahi Stitch which is cross stitch. We will familiarize ourselves with the tools needed for this traditional art and practice our new Tatreez skills on Aida cloth.
The second day we will learn more advanced stitching techniques, study Palestinian garments and how Palestinian cross stitch patterns are designed. We will practice combining motifs into designs and learn how to stitch on fabric.
Participants will leave the workshop with the skill to practice Palestinian Fellahi Stitch, and start stitching on clothing and combining motifs. They will also have acquired the cultural competency to use those skills.
