In March, Sitka Youth Program participants will learn about Iranian artist Monir Shahroudy Farmanfarmaian, whose career spans six decades. Finding inspiration in Sahroudy Farmanfarmain's work, youth scholars will explore elements of design such as texture, pattern and motif through the art of tile making. Students will create a series of tiles out of air-dry clay using organic shapes to create their own motifs. Texture will be added by pressing found leaves, needles, flowers and branches into the clay.
